Dye Day Swatches
Before I start ripping my painted sox blanks, I thought you'd like to see what I started with. I can't want to see what happens when I start to knit. But, being the non-knitter that I am, I keep thinking about how I can use this idea/technique for weaving...

That reminds me of when I quilted a lot - somewhere I saw a description of quilting as cutting fabric up into little pieces, and then sewing it back together into a big piece again. The point is not always obvious to those not doing the quilting!
Anyhow, my point is that you could frog the dyed blanks and use the yarn as weft (obviously), for a very long color repeat scarf or whatever. I just did that with Noro sock yarn. But this is making me wonder what would happen if you used one blank as the warp and one as weft. Would it be a lovely color gamp? Or a muddy mess? Hmm...I bet the latter.
Or use the dyed yarn as the pattern weft in some sort of overshot thingie.
Or knit plain socks. Mindlessness is not a bad thing sometimes, I find.

Hi Jane,
I machine knit and dye a lot of yarn for weaving. In fact, I'll be teaching a seminar on this very subject at Convergence. The class is called "Machine Knitting to Weave For".

Hi Nancy, Thanks for your info. For those who are not familiar with Convergence, it is the biannual conference of The Handweavers Guild of America. This year it is held in Tampa, Florida, June 22-28. For more: www.spinweavedye.org
