How do I install pointed screws more easily?

Many Schacht products have parts that are attached with sheet metal screws (with pointed ends). We pre-drill pilot holes for these screws, but the screws have to fit tightly. Changes in humidity will affect the wood.

If you're having difficulty installing the screws all the way, try the following:

  • Make sure you're using a #2 Phillips screwdriver. We recommend using a screwdriver or ratchet screwdriver, rather than a power tool.
  • If you've already tried to attach the beam and your screwdriver has chewed up the screw heads, protect your fingers from cuts: use an emery board to smooth down the rough spots on the screw head.
  • Rub the pointed ends and the shafts of the screws on a bar of soap.
